TICP Customs collects over N235.30bn revenue in two months

…Hands over intercepted cache of arms, illegal drugs to relevant Govt agencies

The Tin Can Island Port (TCIP) Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has handed over to the relevant security agencies cache of arms and ammunition; including illicit drugs it recently intercepted.

This came as the Command superintended by the high performing Comptroller Dera Nnadi, has reported a total revenue collection of over N235.30 billion from January to the second week of March 2024.

Dera Nnadi who spoke in a press conference Friday in what he described as an “opportunity to render our stewardship over the last months,” said, “it is our belief that at the end of the briefing, you will be availed of the efforts being put in place to upscale our revenue drive while facilitating legitimate trade.”

Nnadi who noted that they have tagged year 2024 with the theme “The Year of the Stakeholders” which aligns with the theme for the International Customs Day “ Customs Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose,” saying this is in tandem with the fundamental pillars of the Comptroller General of Customs vision of Collaboration, Consolidation and Innovation.

According to him, the command recorded a total collection N235, 302,743,023.47 for the period of January 2024 till date.

A breakdown of the revenue collected, indicates that the command raked in a total of N88,430,126,122.72 in the month of January 2024,this is 7.89 per cent higher than the value of N42,536,336,038.11 for the month of January 2023.

In the month of February 2024, the command generated N100, 399,354,887.71 this is 41.82 per cent higher than the value collected on the same period in 2023 which is N41, 518,738,649.09.

Advocacy Times further learnt that in the month of March 2023, the command recorded the sum of N42, 473,262,013.00 collected from 1st – 13th March 2024.

Enforcement and Anti-smuggling activities

According to Comptroller Nnadi, the command’s anti-smuggling drive has not relented its efforts in any way, saying as the lead agency at the port, the Enforcement unit of the command has coordinated several 100 per cent physical examination under the supervision of the Controller in collaboration with critical stakeholders to ensure that the command is freed of any form of noncompliance to international trade.

Items seized include 12 pieces of rifles and 6 pistols.  Other items seized are: 2 packets of 50pcs of 9mm, five ammunition, totalling 100 rounds, 23 packets weighing 23kg of substance confirmed to be heroine, Marked white 999– Ten (10) packets of 1kg each=10kg, Marked white 888– Three packets of 1kg each=3kg, Marked blue Saphire— Eight packets of 1kg each = 8kg, Marked 777 Bentley— Two packets of 1kg each=2kg.

Also intercepted are  Flat screen Television sets, HP printer, Six cartons containing scanner machines,  Five empty metal Jerry cans,  Two washing machines, Three sets of bed frames, One set of living room furniture, Three used micro wave, One used vacuum cleaner, Table tennis, One sport bicycle and Two wooden crates of light fittings.

Others are One wooden crate containing a motorized toy car, DSTV dish, One used Samsung, Refrigerator, Four sets of used sound systems, One used barbecue grill, Two used toasters, Three used blenders and Sixteen bags containing used clothes and personal effects.

Comptroller Nnadi expressed appreciation to the CGC, Bashir Adeniyi and his management team for his continuous support to the command.
