The Director-General of the International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMION), Rear Admiral Thaddeus Christopher Udofia (rtd), PhD, has charged newly promoted Lieutenant Commander A. Achimugu to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and dedication to duty.
Udofia gave the charge during a decoration ceremony in Lagos to formally mark Achimugu’s elevation to the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Nigerian Navy.
The promotion, according to the institute, is a recognition of the officer’s meritorious service, competence and readiness to assume greater responsibilities in the discharge of his duties.
The ceremony attracted senior military officers, colleagues, friends and members of the celebrant’s family, who gathered to celebrate the milestone in his naval career.
Addressing the gathering, Udofia congratulated Achimugu on his well-deserved promotion, describing it as a significant milestone that comes with greater expectations and responsibilities.
He emphasised that promotion should be regarded as an elevation that demands increased commitment, accountability and exemplary leadership, urging the officer to remain steadfast in his service to the nation.
The IMION Director-General further charged him to sustain his professional excellence and demonstrate the leadership qualities expected of an officer entrusted with higher responsibilities.
In his response, Achimugu expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff, the leadership of IMION, his colleagues, family members and well-wishers for their support and encouragement throughout his career.
He reaffirmed his loyalty to the Nigerian Navy and pledged to remain committed to discipline, professional excellence and effective service delivery.
The newly promoted officer also reiterated his commitment to supporting IMION’s vision of becoming a premier Centre of Excellence for maritime affairs in the sub-region.
A statement by Dr. Bashir Ambi, Head, Communication and Marketing, IMION, disclosed that the ceremony underscored the institute’s commitment to recognising professional achievement while reinforcing the core values of discipline, leadership and service within the maritime sector.
