The 2023 presidential candidate for the Labour Party, Peter Obi has explained why he decided to serve food to guests at the birthday celebration of Reverend Father Morris in Orlu, Imo state.

In a video, the former governor, who spoke at the cleric’s birthday event, said he only did what he did to depict what the life of everyone should be like.

According to Obi, leaders ought to care for and share to the people whom they have been saddled with the responsibility to lead.

He said, “I have been serving people here, seeing people eat, seeing people celebrate and happy. Thank you.

“I have no other thing to say, except to say that this is the way our society should be; a society where people care.

“We want more of Father Morris. We want more of individuals who would be caring for the poor; caring to support everybody.”

He further encouraged the priest to continue in his service to humanity, caring for the poor and supporting people around him.

“For all of those who haven’t eaten, rest assured that I am coming to serve you. We will make sure that everybody eats here today.”

Further indicating his interest in joining the priest’s ministry, which embodies service to mankind, Obi said, “Wherever there is service, I want to be part of it.”

Recall that social media had been set on fire after the photos and videos of the former governor were seen serving guests at the event.

Several Nigerians had expressed their displeasure, describing Obi’s action as a desperate act of a politician.
