The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) has announced that Senator Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Marine Transport, will be honoured with its Lifetime Achievement Award for Legislative Excellence and Selflessness.
According to a statement by AMJON, the award celebrates Senator Sanni’s outstanding contributions to legislative oversight, maritime sector reform, and community empowerment, describing him as a leader whose service record continues to inspire the next generation of public servants.
The presentation ceremony is scheduled to hold on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos, where industry stakeholders, lawmakers, and maritime professionals are expected to gather to celebrate the lawmaker’s achievements.
Senator Sanni, who represents Lagos Central Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, has had a long and distinguished career in governance spanning more than two decades. He previously served as two-term Executive Chairman of Lagos Island Local Government, three-term Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Lagos Island Constituency I, and later became Deputy Speaker of the House for two terms before his election to the Senate.
AMJON noted that Senator Sanni has been a “key voice” in strengthening Nigeria’s maritime policy framework, particularly through his advocacy for sustainable infrastructure, improved port efficiency, and fair stakeholder engagement in the sector.
“Senator Eshilokun Sanni’s passion for good governance and his consistent drive to promote maritime development and community upliftment exemplify the spirit of service that AMJON seeks to celebrate,” the association stated.
The AMJON Lifetime Achievement Award is one of the highest honours bestowed by the association on distinguished personalities who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to Nigeria’s maritime growth and national development.
With this recognition, Senator Sanni joins a select class of leaders whose legislative influence and community impact continue to shape policy direction and inspire excellence within and beyond the maritime sector.
