United Bank of Africa (UBA) pensioners have slammed the Chairman of the Bank, Tony Elumelu, whom they accused of insensitivity to their plight.

Some of the pensioners recently embarked on a protest to the head office of the Bank in Marina, Lagos, to protest their poor treatment and demand significant increase in their pensions.

The crux of the pensioners’ complaint was that for 11 years, UBA Management has refused to add N1.00 to their monthly pension.

They lamented that the majority -about 80 per cent- of them earn between N10, 000 and N15,000 per month.

According to them, “Last month, August 2024, UBA Management offered to increase our pensions by 20 per cent per month, which is about N2, 000 after so many disappointments!

“This is very insensitive of the Chairman of the Bank, Mr. Tony Elumelu and his team!

“We need the whole world to prevail on Elumelu to save the souls of these builders of the EMPIRE he is now enjoying by paying them a living pension.”

Witnesses said that it was a big spectacle as UBA pensioners stormed and laid siege to the bank’s Head Office, Marina, early in the week.

The pensioners, according to reports, are asking the Management to pay them henceforth N70,000 minimum pension and medical.

The management of the Bank had yet to respond to the demands of the pensioners/retirees as of the time of this publication.
