Coming on the heels of the alleged Fulani herdsmen terrorist attack on the residents of Barkin Ladi and Bokkos local government areas of Plateau State on Christmas Eve which caused the death of over 150 people, mainly women and children, Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang Tuesday declared 24 hours curfew on Mangu Local Government Area of the state, saying the reason for the action is the deteriorating security situation in the area.
A statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Mr. Gyang Bare, a copy of which was made available to Advocacy Times disclosed that the governor took the decision after consultations with relevant security agencies in the state.
He stated that only persons on essential duties are allowed to move within the Local Government Area until further notice.
According to the statement, the governor urged all citizens in the state, especially residents of Mangu LGA to comply with the directive and assist security personnel by providing them with reliable information to restore peace and order in the area.
He lamented that some people are still bent on creating an atmosphere of insecurity in the state despite the state government’s efforts to end the activities of terrorist elements in the state.
Gov Mutfwang expressed sympathies with the families of the victims and the injured and assured that the government will not relent in ensuring lasting peace in the state. He promised that the curfew will be reviewed as soon as the security situation improves.
