The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has extended its heartfelt condolences to veteran maritime journalist, Chief Asu Beks, following the death of his wife, Mrs. Helen Asu Beks, who passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

In a condolence message, MWUN President-General, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, described the loss as a “deeply painful blow” to Asu Beks, whom he referred to as a steadfast ally of the union and a towering figure in maritime journalism. Beks, a respected media professional, previously worked with the defunct Concord Group and several other prominent news organisations.

Comrade Bunu noted that the news of Mrs. Beks’ demise had thrown the entire MWUN family into mourning, stressing that her passing was not only a personal tragedy for the renowned journalist but also a loss felt across the maritime community.

He urged Chief Beks to take solace in faith, reminding him that “nothing on earth lasts forever” and expressing hope in the promise of resurrection. The union leader assured him that MWUN would stand firmly by his side—morally, physically, and emotionally—during this difficult period.

Bunu also encouraged the bereaved journalist to remain strong for the children Mrs. Beks left behind, reaffirming the union’s commitment to supporting him in every possible way.

Praying for divine comfort for the family, Bunu asked that God grant Chief Beks and his children the strength to bear the loss, and that the soul of Mrs. Helen Asu Beks rest in perfect peace.
