Mpam Autonomous community elects new PG, other executives
…As new PG holds first general meeting on Saturday

The Mpam Progressive Union (MPU), the umbrella body of Ndi-Mpam at home and in Diaspora has announced the successful election of a new President General (PG), Honourable Anthony Ikechukwu Odom, and other 12 executive officials, to run the affairs of the mother union for the next three years.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Publicity Secretary of the union, Chief Hyginus Chukwuemeka in the New Year.
This is as Chief Chukwuemeka has disclosed that the Hon Odom-led executives have called for an emergency general meeting of the union on Saturday, January 4th, 2025. The meeting is slated to hold at the Mpam Civic Centre, Eke-Mpam.
The statement reads in part: “The Mpam Progressive Union (MPU) is delighted to announce the successful conclusion of its leadership election. This historic process, conducted with utmost transparency, fairness, and the collective resolve of Ndi-Mpam, marks a significant milestone in the journey towards a prosperous and united Mpam Autonomous Community.
“The newly elected executives, drawn from all villages within our great community, represent a diverse and inclusive team, united by a shared vision to drive transformative development, foster unity, and uplift the lives of Ndi-Mpam.”
Advocacy Times learnt that the election which had Mazi Tony Odirichukwu as the Electoral Chairman and Barrister Augustine Chilaka as Electoral Secretary respectively, returned elected: Hon. Anthony Ikechukwu Odom – President General (Umuegwu Mpam); Mr. Lucian Odom – Vice President General (Umuohuo Mpam); Mr. Nicholas Uka – Secretary General (Umuaju Mpam); Mr. Donatus Odinma – Assistant Secretary General (Okponkume Mpam); Elder John Ugwulege – Treasurer (Okponkume Mpam); Mr. Chukwuma Oforegbu – Financial Secretary (Umuohuo Mpam); and Chief Hyginus Chukwuemeka – Publicity Secretary (Umuegwu Mpam).
Others are: Sir Bede Obasi – Circular Bearer (Umuohuo Mpam); Mr. Victor Ugoh – Circular Bearer (Umuegwu Mpam); Mr. Ebuka Iwunze – Chief Provost (Umuaju Mpam); Mr. Buchi Njoku – Circular Bearer (Okponkume Mpam), and Mr. Obasi Abraham – Welfare Officer (Umuaju Mpam).
Barrister Augustine Chilaka from Umuohuo Mpam was appointed as the Legal Adviser of the union.
According to Chief Chukwuemeka, MPU has extended it profound gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the election, even as it sends special appreciation to the Electoral Committee for their diligence, the Ndi Eze for their wisdom and leadership, and the elders, women, youth, and Ndi-Mpam at large for their unwavering commitment to peace and progress.
His words: “We also acknowledge the courage and sportsmanship of all contestants, whose participation underscored their dedication to the development of our community. Your collective efforts have solidified the foundation for a brighter future.”
He disclosed that the new administration is committed to fulfilling the aspirations of Ndi-Mpam by pursuing the following priorities:
Fostering Unity and Peace: Building bridges of harmony across all segments of our community to ensure sustainable peace and cooperation.
Infrastructure Development and Economic Growth: Spearheading initiatives to improve road networks, enhance access to electricity and water, and create job opportunities for our people.
Education and Healthcare: Prioritising access to quality education, scholarship programmes, and better healthcare services for all.
Youth and Women Empowerment: Implementing programmes that promote entrepreneurship, skill acquisition, and inclusivity for youths and women in governance and community development.
Cultural Preservation: Protecting and promoting our rich cultural heritage, traditions, and environment for future generations.
The new administration to taking over from the Honourable Ogbata Charles-led executives which stakeholders told Advocacy Times that they distinguished themselves with extraordinary leadership qualities.
The expectation is that the Hon Odom-led administration will surpass the best of the Hon Charles’
