Ugandan police are currently holding a 110-year-old man, Dominic Babiiha, who is accused of stabbing his 109-year-old wife, Costansio Bakasisa, to death. The alleged motive behind the tragic act was the wife’s refusal to grant him conjugal rights.

The incident was reported to have occurred on Saturday at their home in Kahunga, located in the western district of Ntungamo.

According to regional police spokesperson Samson Kasasira, the dispute arose on Thursday night when the deceased declined her husband’s request to join him in bed, citing fatigue and a cough. The couple, who lived in the same house, opted to sleep in separate rooms that night.

On Saturday morning, the suspect raised an alarm, expressing that “he couldn’t die alone.” Subsequently, one of the granddaughters investigated and discovered the elderly man armed with a billhook. The granddaughter was ordered out of the room, and the suspect proceeded to stab the deceased multiple times.

Neighbours, alerted by the commotion, found Bakasisa dead, while Babiiha had locked himself in a room where he was discovered unconscious with a bottle of agrochemical beside him.

Police indicated that the violence leading to the woman’s death stemmed from a dispute over conjugal rights. An ongoing investigation is being conducted into the matter. The couple, despite sharing a residence, had been sleeping in separate rooms.
