…stresses need for safety of navigation on waterways

The Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh has expressed his agency’s condolences to the families of the 15 persons who lost their lives in a boat accident in Katsina State.
In a tweet via his verified official Tweeter handle, Jamoh described the accident as disheartening while urging users of water transportation to pay attention to safety of navigation across 26 states of the country where Nigerian inland waters travers
He tweeted “Absolutely disheartened to receive the news of the boat accident in Katsina killing 15 travellers.
“Yet another reminder that we must pay more attention to the safety of navigation in our inland waterways which spans over 26 states. My condolences to the families of the deceased”
Fifteen persons were reportedly dead after a boat capsised at a section of a river site located at Mai’adua Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The incident, according to an eyewitness, occurred on Wednesday at about 11:00 p.m. when the canoe conveying an undisclosed number of passengers capsised which which led to the death of 15 people on board. The victims have been buried.
