Fubara directs all 23 LGA chairmen in Rivers to contest on APP platform

As the battle for the soul of Rivers State politics continues between the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and the incumbent Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara; the governor has directed all his anointed candidates for the 23 local government areas of the state to contest for the chairmanship positions in the forthcoming Rivers State local government election on the platform of the All People’s Party (APP).
Advocacy Times learnt that the decision came in the wake of Governor Fubara losing control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure in Rivers State to the former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The local government elections are scheduled for October 5, 2024.
Wike has maintained significant control over the PDP structure in the state, causing friction between the two leaders.
The power struggle has culminated in Governor Fubara opting to back the APP, a move many see as a counter to Wike’s dominance in the state.
With the local government elections fast approaching, this move, according to a report by Politics Nigeria, is expected to reshape the political dynamics in Rivers State.
The APP, previously a lesser-known party in the region, now stands to gain considerable traction, backed by the governor and the incumbent local government chairmen.
