In response to recent political developments in Rivers State, the Nigeria Police Force has ordered the immediate unsealing of Local Government Area (LGA) secretariats, along with the withdrawal of police personnel previously deployed in them to secure the locations.
The directive was issued by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and communicated by the newly appointed Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Bala Mustapha.
This decision underscores the Police Force’s commitment to maintaining neutrality and ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of democratic institutions.
According to the directive, police personnel would only return to the LGAs in the event of a crisis or any breakdown of law and order, at which point swift measures would be taken to restore calm.
The Rivers State Police Command, through its spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, assured the public of its continued commitment to upholding peace and security across the state.
The Command urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding as the situation unfolds.
The unsealing of the secretariats is expected to support the smooth administration of local government functions amidst ongoing political activities.
