The Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) Tuesday (today) elected new leaders following the impeachment of its President, Kelvin Kagbare, by members of the association.
The decisive action was taken at an extraordinary emergency meeting held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at the AMJON Secretariat in Apapa. At the meeting, members unanimously dissolved the Kelvin Kagbare–led executive, citing what they described as its total failure to provide purposeful leadership, cohesion and progress for the association.
Following the dissolution, the association immediately conducted fresh elections, which produced the following executive members:
- President: Vera Osokpo
- Vice President: Raymond Tedunjaye
- Secretary: Segun Oladipupo
- Assistant Secretary: Ugochukwu Ezuruike
- Treasurer: Barnabas Esiet
- Financial Secretary: Joshua Okoria
- Public Relations Officer: Uzor Odigbo
- Welfare Officer: Rhoda Ogunseye
- Provost: Gloria Nwafor
Members at the meeting resolved that the change in leadership was necessary in order to reposition the association and restore internal cohesion after what they described as a period of ineffective administration.
In her acceptance speech, the newly elected President, Vera Osokpo, commended members for their steadfastness and tenacity throughout what she described as a challenging period under the dissolved executive. She thanked members for the confidence reposed in her leadership at a critical moment in the association’s history.
Osokpo called on all members to close ranks, embrace unity and work collectively for the progress of AMJON. She also urged members to offer constructive suggestions that would help strengthen the association and enhance its effectiveness going forward.
The emergency meeting ended with a renewed commitment by members to support the new leadership and move the association forward on a more stable and purposeful path.
