The African Independent Television (AIT) has named Comrade Taofeek Adeleke the Best Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) Staff for 2025, recognising his exceptional service, vigilance, and unwavering commitment to the nation’s foremost maritime labour union.
The award was presented at AIT’s corporate headquarters in Alagbado, Lagos, where Adeleke — a former dockworker from Oyo State who now serves as a security officer with the union — was celebrated for a career defined by diligence, integrity and an uncommon instinct for security threats.
According to a statement issued by MWUN’s Head of Media, Comrade Kennedy Ikemefuna, Adeleke’s colleagues and union executives consistently describe him as “a selfless professional” and “a man with a bird’s eye for detecting wrongdoing even before it unfolds.”
Upon returning to the union’s headquarters, Adeleke presented the award to the President-General of MWUN, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi. Receiving the plaque, Bunu praised the honouree’s loyalty, brilliance and relentless work ethic, noting that Adeleke embodies the true spirit of service within the labour movement.
“Comrade Taofeek is one of those rare staff who consider every call to duty — no matter the hour — as a noble responsibility,” Bunu said. “His dedication, responsiveness and results-driven approach set him apart among his peers.”
The MWUN leader urged Adeleke to remain steadfast in his conduct, describing the honour as “only the beginning of greater achievements ahead.”
In his remarks, Comrade Taofeek expressed gratitude to the President-General and the union’s leadership for their continuous support and encouragement, saying the recognition would further inspire him to serve with even greater zeal.
The award marks the first time AIT is honouring a MWUN staff member in this category.
