MWUN completes dockworkers’ district elections nationwide, members applaud credible process

The Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has successfully concluded its dockworkers’ district elections in several outstations across the Eastern Port axis and adjoining districts, with members commending the process as transparent, peaceful and credible.

 

The elections, conducted under the leadership of the President-General of the union, Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, covered the Eastern Port Districts comprising Delta Port and Julius Berger Districts in Warri, Delta State, as well as Calabar, Port Harcourt and Bonny districts.

 

According to the union, the exercise was carried out in phases. The first phase featured the Delta Port and Julius Berger Districts, while the second phase covered Calabar, FLT, FOT, INTELS, OMT, Port Harcourt Districts I and II, Bonny District and the Central Pool District.

 

At the Delta Port District, Comrade Gabriel Koma emerged Chairman, with Charles Avwata as Vice Chairman, Paul Bolomu as Secretary, Monday Aiyanyor as Assistant Secretary, and Laju Atune as Treasurer. Other key officers elected include Julius Norah as Special Female Representative and Sunday Sesi as NEC member, alongside 24 appointed officers.

 

In the Julius Berger District, Comrade Samson Pere was elected Chairman, Edemayibo Ormireju as Vice Chairman, Kenneth Atagan as Secretary, Jude Abilabor as Assistant Secretary, and Orugboh Edonmi as Treasurer. Anuchie Collins emerged as NEC member, while Ebuwa Isibor was elected Special Female Representative, supported by 13 appointed officers.

 

The Calabar District elected Comrade Maurice Edet as Chairman, Uweh Ekpo as Vice Chairman, Joseph Rkpe as Secretary, Bassey Ekpeyong as Assistant Secretary, and Akpan Joshua as Treasurer. Bassey Asuquo Etim emerged as NEC member, while Margaret Ebiti Peter was elected Special Female Representative, alongside 15 appointed officers.

 

In the Central Pool District, Comrade John Ebobo emerged Chairman, with Amoo Bobola as Vice Chairman, Aniete Akpan as Secretary, Cyril Akpan as Assistant Secretary, and Godwin Acha as Treasurer. Stephen Dad was elected NEC member and Janet Okoro as Special Female Representative, supported by 18 appointed officers.

 

The FLT District elected Comrade Friday Ajilo as Chairman, Asitonka Tende as Vice Chairman, Gershon Abraham as Secretary, Patrick Chinda as Assistant Secretary, and Zobari Nnodee as Treasurer. Lawrence Kalaiyo emerged NEC member, while Alou Ochu was elected Special Female Representative, with 17 appointed officers.

 

At the FOT District, Comrade Adams Majesty emerged Chairman, Jackson Osarobey as Vice Chairman, Dokuboye Bob Manuel as Secretary, Osarobey David as Assistant Secretary, and Timothy Egele as Treasurer. Prince David was elected NEC member, while Modesta Uzoagba emerged Special Female Representative, supported by 16 appointed officers.

 

The OMT District produced Comrade Anyomi Joseph as Chairman, Fyne Anabs as Vice Chairman, Gift Iwaritaribi as Secretary, Timothy Egele as Assistant Secretary, and Cletus Enyia as Treasurer. Monday Penury emerged NEC member, while Blessing Nwankwo was elected Special Female Representative, with 14 appointed officers.

 

In the INTELS District, Comrade Ohaka Nwabueze was elected Chairman, Timothy Inetianbor as Vice Chairman, Freddie Jack as Secretary, Iheanyichukwu Emmanuel as Assistant Secretary, and Offong Amanam as Treasurer. Daniel Akpiri emerged NEC member, while Pearl Owatogbe Egbe was elected Special Female Representative, supported by 12 appointed officers.

 

Port Harcourt District One elected Comrade Gwuene Nkabono as Chairman, Chukwudi Asoguh as Vice Chairman, Abdulmalik Haruna as Secretary, Tamunokuro Dagogo as Assistant Secretary, and Iminabo Amachree as Treasurer. Tajudeen Owolabi emerged NEC member, while Beatrice Ifeanyi was elected Special Female Representative, with 16 appointed officers.

 

In Port Harcourt District Two, Comrade Ebitenga Soye Perri emerged Chairman, Tonye Phillips as Vice Chairman, Oyika Amos as Secretary, Abiye Dokubo as Assistant Secretary, and Minabiye Dauphin as Treasurer. Isaac Evinson was elected NEC member, while Precious Oghu emerged Special Female Representative, supported by 16 appointed officers.

 

The Bonny District elected Comrade Daddy Weeks as Chairman, Dappa Ajaladeg as Vice Chairman, Alex Onwuka as Secretary, Ekandem Michael Virtus as Assistant Secretary, and Cunningham Green as Treasurer. Beauty Don Pedro emerged Special Female Representative, while Ezekiel Thomas was elected NEC member, alongside 13 appointed officers.

 

Congratulating all elected and appointed officers, Comrade Bunu urged them to demonstrate discipline and integrity in the discharge of their duties, stressing that adherence to the union’s constitution was non-negotiable. He warned against double standards, declaring that the era of impunity in the union was over.

While assuring the new executives of the union’s full support, the President-General cautioned that any form of misconduct would attract decisive sanctions. He also commended the leadership of the Dockworkers Branch, particularly its President, Comrade Agboola Bolaji, for his commendable conduct throughout the electoral process.

Comrade Bunu further assured members that the remaining district elections would be conducted without bias, reiterating that no contestant would be shortchanged. He directed newly elected officers to commence work immediately after their swearing-in.

In their separate remarks, the newly elected district executives expressed gratitude to the MWUN leadership for what they described as an open, fair and just process, pledging to justify the confidence reposed in them.
