Boosting FG’s Security Architecture: Hope rises in south east as Akagburuonye donates ultra-modern facility to NSCDC

In a major boost to the Federal Government’s drive to strengthen internal security and restore lasting peace in the Southeast, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has commissioned an ultra-modern Area Command Office in Ogbor-Uvuru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
The state-of-the-art security facility, strategically located to enhance intelligence gathering and rapid response operations, was built and donated to the Federal Government by a renowned businessman and philanthropist, Chief (Barr.) Success Obioma Akagburuonye. The gesture has been hailed as a model example of public-private collaboration in advancing national security.
Speaking during the commissioning, Dr. Audi — represented by the Assistant Commandant General in charge of Zone 13, Mr. Nnamdi Nwanukwu — described the project as a monumental contribution to the Federal Government’s renewed effort to strengthen the nation’s security architecture, especially in regions affected by insecurity and economic disruption.

“This facility will serve as a vital operational base to coordinate security efforts, foster inter-agency collaboration, and ensure peace and economic stability in Imo and neighbouring states,” Audi stated.
He commended Chief Akagburuonye for his patriotism and foresight, describing him as “a true patriot who understands that national security is a shared responsibility.” The NSCDC boss also lauded the Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, for his continued logistical support to security agencies across the state.
“I want to express our gratitude to Chief Akagburuonye for his generosity in using his personal resources to build a befitting office for the Corps. This is the kind of partnership Nigeria needs. Security is everyone’s business — the government cannot do it alone,” he said.
The Commandant General reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to maintaining the new office and urged other wealthy Nigerians and corporate entities to emulate Akagburuonye’s example in supporting the fight against insecurity.
In his remarks, the Imo State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Basil Igwebueze, also called on citizens to take ownership of the security of their communities by partnering with law enforcement agencies.
“For security to be effective, everyone must be involved,” Igwebueze said. “Those who have the means, like Barr. Akagburuonye, should assist government with logistics and infrastructure, while others can support with actionable intelligence. Together, we can secure our state.”
In his address, Chief Akagburuonye expressed gratitude to the NSCDC and the people of Ogbor-Uvuru for their cooperation and support throughout the project. He said his decision to embark on the initiative was driven by a deep concern for the rising insecurity in the Southeast and a desire to complement government efforts.
“Peace and security are the bedrock of progress,” Akagburuonye stated. “I became uncomfortable with the level of insecurity ravaging our communities and decided to act. I reached out to the NSCDC to find out whether a private citizen could help establish a security facility. Their positive response and cooperation made this dream a reality.”
He disclosed that the newly commissioned facility has been designated as the Area Command office for the three Mbaise local government areas — Aboh, Ezinihitte, and Ahiazu.
Akagburuonye also acknowledged the generosity of the Ogbor community for donating land and providing local support, noting that such unity of purpose made the project possible. “I will continue to support NSCDC’s operations here, but I urge the officers to uphold discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their duties,” he added.
The new command complex features cutting-edge communication and surveillance systems, administrative offices, a conference room, and residential quarters for officers — meeting the standard of any modern security outpost in the country.
The commissioning attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations, and representatives of other security agencies, all of whom praised Akagburuonye’s initiative as a shining example of citizen-driven security partnership.
The ceremony, which began with a thanksgiving service at the Noah’s Ark Assembly of God Church, Ogbor-Uvuru, was widely seen as a beacon of hope for Aboh Mbaise and the Southeast — a reminder that peace and progress are achievable when patriotic citizens and government institutions work together toward a common goal.
