In an aftermath of the Edo State governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially rejected the Edo election results.
The party stated that the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not reflect the true will of the people.
This was stated during a press conference in Abuja by the PDP acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, who called on concerned Nigerians to support the party’s rejection of the election results.
He emphasised that the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, was the rightful winner of the election noting that “the PDP unequivocally rejects the result as announced by INEC.”
This development comes amid several controversies that have greeted the governorship election.
The Nigerian Civil Society Situation Room had confirmed widespread vote buying and selling during the Saturday poll, saying the voters were induced with up to N10, 000 as well as food items including bread.
Civic organisation, YIAGA had accused the INEC of election results manipulation.
