The chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Ikenga Ugochinyere, has slammed Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, over his call on President Bola Tinubu to remove Nyesom Wike from office as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
SaharaReporters reported on Thursday, that Gumi had in a video sermon of over 14 minutes posted on his official Facebook page, labelled Wike as “Satan” for receiving the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria in his office.
The cleric in the sermon also asserted that President Tinubu would be stopped from serving for eight years.
He had stated “The FCT minister (Nyesom Wike) is a devil incarnate. I’ve said so ever since he was appointed. I cannot independently verify, but someone said he was quoted as saying he had already engaged Israeli security, but I can confirm that he said he would invite the Israeli Ambassador to help redesign the security architecture of Abuja to pattern after that of Tel Aviv so that bearded people like us would be hounded and killed on sight because we’ve been stereotyped as Bin Laden.”
He added, “Now where are the proponents of the Muslim-Muslim ticket? You guys are hypocrites! Abuja has become a Tel Aviv because the security of a country is the people. Why are you silent? It is because you know what you’re up to.”
However, Ugochinyere in a reaction slammed Sheikh Gumi, describing his attack on Wike as unwarranted.
Ugochinyere, a former spokesman of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), wondered why there was hate against Southerners and Christians by the Islamic cleric, warning that if caution was not traded it might lead to ethnic and religious tension in the country.
The lawmaker maintained that Gumi’s attack would not deterred Wike from commendable reforms he has started in FCT.
Ugochinyere said that “the recent utterances and subtle threats from Gumi must not be brushed under the carpet by security agencies.”
