The Tin Can Island Port Complex (TCIPC) of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Maritime Correspondents’ Organisation of Nigeria (MARCON) have pledged to strengthen their partnership to enhance public understanding of port operations and improve maritime information dissemination.
The commitment was made when MARCON executives visited the port management to reinforce cooperation and sustain effective communication between both organisations.
The Head of Tariff and Billing at TCIPC, Dr Ubolur Julius, who represented the Port Manager, Abubakar Sani Isa, said the NPA recognised the critical role of maritime journalists in educating the public about port operations and promoting awareness of developments in the maritime sector.
He assured the delegation of the port management’s readiness to collaborate with MARCON in areas of mutual interest, stressing that the facility maintained an open-door policy to facilitate access to information.
“We welcome you not just as journalists but to understand the critical function you perform, particularly in educating the general public about port operations,” Julius said.
He encouraged maritime correspondents to approach the port’s management whenever they required information about its activities, reaffirming its willingness to engage with the media.
In his remarks, MARCON President, Ismail Aniemu, said the organisation had maintained a cordial relationship with the NPA, both at its headquarters and across its port facilities.
He explained that the visit was intended to renew engagement with the current management of Tin Can Island Port and strengthen the existing relationship between the two organisations.
Aniemu reaffirmed MARCON’s commitment to objective journalism and the accurate dissemination of information on port activities, noting that responsible reporting was essential to informing the public and advancing national interests.
“As journalists, for us, truth is sacred. We always give our support to disseminate information about your activities in an objective manner and in ways that promote our national interests,” he said.
The MARCON president added that the organisation remained committed to supporting the port management through professional reporting and constructive engagement whenever necessary.
He described the visit as an opportunity to consolidate an established partnership rather than initiate a new relationship, expressing confidence that continued cooperation would promote better information flow and public understanding of port operations.
