Ezisi to chair MARCON conference on sustainable fishing in Nigeria

The Maritime Correspondents’ Organisation of Nigeria (MARCON) has announced that its patron, High Chief Tochukwu Ezisi, will chair its Conference on Sustainable Fishing in Nigeria.

Ezisi, a maritime industry stakeholder, will also deliver the keynote address at the conference, with the theme, “Sustainable Fishing in Nigeria: Pathways to Growth, Food Security and Coastal Livelihoods.”

The conference, scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, will bring together policymakers, regulators, maritime security agencies, fishing industry operators, researchers, maritime training institutions and other stakeholders to examine the development of Nigeria’s fisheries sector and its contribution to food security, employment and economic growth.

According to MARCON, Ezisi’s role as chairman and keynote speaker underscores the importance of industry experience and leadership in driving conversations around the sustainable development of Nigeria’s fishing industry and the wider blue economy.

Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Paul Ogbuokiri, said Ezisi’s involvement would add significant value to the conference, given his experience and longstanding relationship with the maritime industry.

“Having High Chief Tochukwu Ezisi, a patron of MARCON, chair the conference and deliver the keynote address is a privilege for the organisation. We believe his experience and understanding of the maritime sector will enrich the discussions and provide valuable perspectives on the pathways to a sustainable and productive fisheries industry in Nigeria,” Ogbuokiri said.

Ogbuokiri added that the conference is expected to generate practical ideas and stronger stakeholder collaboration to address the challenges confronting Nigeria’s fishing sector, while identifying opportunities to improve food security, create livelihoods and contribute to the growth of the maritime economy.
